Cast of Characters:
Laura & Louie, Ben, Peter.
The machines:
Louie's on his new RC51; Laura's on her new VTR1000 (yes, we're a family of twins now!); Ben's on his "vintage" 1990 FZR600; and Peter's rolling on his Ducati 998.
The Plan:
Route? Well, we know we're leaving Seattle on July 5, 2005 and we know we have hotel reservations for Thursday in Watsonville, CA near Monterey. The rest? We're winging it. Therein lies the fun of a road trip!! Planning?! We're on vacation - we don' need no stinkin' plannin'! Get up when we wake up, ride where it suits us, get there when we get there!
Day 1:
Our day started a little scattered - last minute errands for Laura and Louie, Ben's still unpacking in his new house, Peter's got a business meeting later in the afternoon. We decide on a late meet-up with Ben in Renton around 11am or so. Peter's going to call us when he's out of our meeting and ready to hit the road (he ended up leaving Seattle closer to 4:30pm and STILL managed to catch up with us around 2:30am at our hotel). Because of the late start (noon), we decide that we'll ride I-5 south to Eugene and then decide where to head from there based on how everyone was feeling (This was Laura's first road trip - previously she'd only been about 160 miles or so AND she was riding a new bike). Once in Eugene, we decide that everyone is doing great and we set our sights on Klamath Falls via the back roads- a total of just over 520 miles. We arrived at the hotel around 9:45pm - a full day of riding! When we woke in the morning, Peter had safely arrived and we were all ready to hit the road for Day 2.
